Locomotives are grouped according to their previous owners (Big Four and BR), those now preserved and New Build Locomotives.

The terminology and abbreviations used , concerning the type of locomotives are those developed by the Birmingham Locomotive Club and used in their publications:-

Number and Name carried, Wheel Arrangement & Type, Class, Manufacturer & Year Built, Origin and Current Location.

The Gauge of locomotives is Standard (4'8.1/2") unles otherwise stated.
